About Me:

Three decades ago, I discovered my life’s pursuit after walking into a basement where men and women chiseled and carved blocks of stone. I am most at home when covered in white dust, tools in my hand, looking for form to emerge and transform.

As humans, we respond to beauty in everything around us. But where does it come from? The origin of beauty comes from the life giving, nurturing source of all things, which is uniquely represented by the female form. In my work, I delve into the elemental aspect of this concept. My goal is to capture the many dimensions of beauty as represented by the proportions, curves, and dimensions of the female body. It is the common denominator across much of my work, and it advocates an approach to beauty that is fundamental. This is the lens of my art.

While I sometimes work in wood and bronze, stone is my preferred medium. Its timeless strength, color, veining, imperfections and permanence intrigue and challenge me to transform inanimate natural objects to living forms. I utilize the traditional methods of carving with only a few hand tools: hammer, chisel and rasps. After hours of chipping, rasping and sanding, my vision takes shape. The sculpture’s beauty unfolds on the path to its final form.
